The Turtle Boy - by Kealan Patrick Burke
Kealan Patrick Burke's Bram Stoker Award-winning coming of age story The Turtle Boy...
School is out and summer has begun. For eleven year old Timmy Quinn and his best friend Pete Marshall, the dreary town of Delaware Ohio becomes a place of magic, hidden treasure and discovery.
But on the day they encounter a strange young boy sitting on the bank of Myers Pond, a pond playground rumor says may hide turtles the size of Buicks, everything changes.
For it soon becomes apparent that dark secrets abound in the little community, secrets which come cupped in the hands of the dead, and in a heartbeat, Timmy and Pete's summer of wonder becomes a season of terror, betrayal and murder.

Think you can handle a trip to the dark side?
Only 4.99 for Kindle
Just your average Pittsburgh soccer mom, baking brownies and carrying a loaded forty-caliber Glock...
Until recently Supervisory Special Agent Lucy Guardino was a shining star in the FBI's roster. But after killing a man and disobeying orders, Lucy's been sidelined, chained to her desk. When a mysterious letter arrives hinting that, thanks to Lucy, the wrong man was blamed for a string of serial rapes, kidnappings, and killings four years ago, Lucy jumps at the chance to re-open the case--despite orders to leave well enough alone.
Her unofficial investigation takes her back to the small town that thrust her into the spotlight four years ago when she saved the killer's last victims--before the killer took his own life and the life of one final victim, a mother who left a ten year old son and loving husband behind.
What Lucy doesn't know is that what happened four years ago was all a lie, fueled by sacrifice and betrayal, designed to shield the real killer.
With the lives of her family, a group of innocent children, and the future of one desperate boy at risk, Lucy races to stop an innocent from killing and a killer from butchering more innocents.
When it comes to "breathtakingly fast-paced thrillers" (Publishers Weekly), New York Times and USA Today Bestseller CJ Lyons is a "master of the genre." (Pittsburgh Magazine).
#1 New York Times bestselling author Lee Child has called CJ's work "Everything a great thriller should be--action packed, authentic, and intense."

THE LAST POLICEMAN by Ben H. Winters
This one just sounds really cool...
(Works for us!)
Detective Hank Palace has faced this question ever since asteroid 2011GV1 hovered into view. There’s no chance left. No hope. Just six precious months until impact.
The Last Policeman presents a fascinating portrait of a pre-apocalyptic United States. The economy spirals downward while crops rot in the fields. Churches and synagogues are packed. People all over the world are walking off the job—but not Hank Palace. He’s investigating a death by hanging in a city that sees a dozen suicides every week—except this one feels suspicious, and Palace is the only cop who cares.
The first in a trilogy, The Last Policeman offers a mystery set on the brink of an apocalypse. As Palace’s investigation plays out under the shadow of 2011GV1, we’re confronted by hard questions way beyond “whodunit.” What basis does civilization rest upon? What is life worth? What would any of us do, what would we really do, if our days were numbered?
Amazon Best Books of the Month, July 2012: It’s not often you hear a book described as a pre-apocalyptic police procedural. But in the hands of Ben Winters (Sense and Sensibility and Seamonsters), the mash-up of murder mystery and gloomy end-of-world melodrama works perfectly. Detective Hank Palace knows the world will likely be destroyed in six months by the meteor headed toward earth like a bullet. But unlike those who are giving up, quitting jobs, doing drugs, running away, or killing themselves, Palace has a job to do. He’s got a murder to solve. So he keeps plugging away, unwilling to let the looming apocalypse distract him from finding the killer. Palace is an appealingly off-kilter character, more goofball than hard-boiled. So it’s a very good thing that this is the first in a planned trilogy. --Neal Thompson

3 GOOD QUESTIONS with FAYTH DEVLIN
NFE: What book(s) kept you up all night reading?
FAYTH DEVLIN: I'm relatively young, 30 to be exact. About 7 years ago I discovered Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series (which was well underway with several books already published). This was my reading awakening. I'd never read anything before that blended paranormal, horror and romance. The first 9 books in the AB series are hands down my favorite novels and I think had a huge impact on the fiction I wanted to write. I lived, ate, didn't sleep, and functioned solely on those books.
NFE: Would BLOOD LUST RISING keep you up all night reading if you hadn’t written it? Why?
FAYTH: I think it would keep me up all night. Reason? The book is action driven, so each scene feeds the next. I've heard from several readers that they devoured it in one sitting because they simply put it down.
NFE: Give us a link to your website or blog so we can find out more about you!
FAYTH: Readers can find out more about me and my Vampire Queen Trilogy on my website, http://www.faythdevlin.com. For those who'd like a bit more personal contact, I welcome followers on twitter, @faythdevlin, and on FB, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Fayth-Devlin/303771279706902.

I, JUDAS the 5th Gospel - Plus 3 Good Questions with BOB MAYER
NEW RELEASE!
Techno-Thriller power house Bob Mayer returns with his most provocative dose of adrenaline to date!
Available Now!
What if Judas is still alive, hidden away in the jungles of the Amazon, waiting for the Second Coming?
As a massive object appears in space heading directly toward Earth, the Brotherhood heralds it as Wormwood, one of the signs of the Rapture and it’s just three days away. They have been preparing to implement the Great Commission as designated by Jesus—where everyone on the planet must hear the word of God before the end in order to be saved. They will use advanced technology to send that message directly into the minds of every human on the planet. The question is: will the message kill everyone who gets it or save them?
Believing him to be the anti-Christ, they also send a team of assassins up the Amazon to find the Great Betrayer and kill him before Armageddon.
Opposing the Brotherhood is the Triumvirate of the Illuminati. They believe they must stop the Great Commission and the assassination team. At the same time they rush to gather nuclear weapons and launch missiles into space to divert the Intruder, as they call the object, believing it to be a natural phenomenon over which technology will prevail.
Three survivors do finally make it to Judas, and he tells them a story, the true story of what happened over two millennia ago. And what is approaching.
As the object nears Earth, both sides become locked in a world-wide battle for the future of the human race, as Judas prepares in the jungle for the Second Coming, the fulfillment of his Fifth Gospel.
Which is not at all what anyone expects.
Praise for Bob Mayer’s science thrillers: “A crackling science thriller in the vein of Crichton that mixes action with science fiction.” Kirkus.
“The best combination of science fiction and technothriller this year.” Publishers Weekly.
“Spellbinding! Call it technothriller, call it science fiction, call it just terrific storytelling.” #1 NY Times Bestseller Terry Brooks
3 Good Questions with Author Bob Mayer
NFE: What book(s) kept you up all night reading?
BOB MAYER: The Stand by Stephen King. It was such a big story. The same with Lonesome Dove. An epic. Read the opening chapter and you feel like you know this whole cast of characters intimately. It's amazing how when they cast the mini-series it was dead on.
I do remember reading this weird little book from the library as a kid called The Hobbit. I was so thrilled when I returned it and saw there were three more books by the same author, some guy named Tolkein. To me, that's the key to a great book-- one where you keep checking to make sure there's more to it, because you don't want it to end.
NFE: Would I, Judas keep you up all night reading if you hadn’t written it? Why?
BOB MAYER: I'd want to know what the Fifth Gospel written by Judas contained. I'd want to know which side prevails, if either, between those with faith and those who believe in the power of science to conquer all.
NFE: How about some links to find you on the Web?
BOB MAYER: Absolutely. Love to hear from you.
NFE Note: For those of you readers who are also writers, absolutely check out Bob's excellent Write it Forward blog!

3 Good Questions w/ Rob Blackwell - A SOUL TO STEAL
We warned you... the Thrillers keep coming!
You Are What You Fear
A serial killer on the loose, two reporters in his sights, and a legendary ghost haunting the town...
Something is stalking the citizens of Loudoun County, Va.
Is it the return of the notorious serial killer known as Lord Halloween? Or is it something worse--a figure that can cloak itself as your worst nightmare?
Kate and Quinn, two community journalists, rush to uncover the truth before a promised bloodbath on Halloween night.
The debut novel from award-winning journalist Rob Blackwell, A Soul to Steal balances mystery, suspense, romance, action and the paranormal, building to a gripping and unforgettable conclusion.
Fans of Stephen King, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Stephenie Meyer and Jim Butcher will find A Soul to Steal an addictive page-turner.
A Soul to Steal is the first book in an amazing new trilogy, The Sanheim Chronicles.
See What Critics Are Saying:
"You have the paranormal, murder, mystery/thriller, suspense and a little romance all rolled into one great read...Everything comes together incredibly well at the end. The ending of this book was amazing. I highly recommend this book."
--Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy Book Lovers [Book Blog]
"This is one of those novels that manages to blend many different genres into a satisfying read. This is predominately a supernatural thriller, but Blackwell also manages to have a romantic narrative in the story as well which doesn't feel forced or false."
-- Ginger Nuts of Horror [Book Blog]
"I did not want to put this book down."
--Bee's Knees Reviews [Book Blog]
"This story is so much more than a who-done-it type book. There are some other paranormal things going on here and no one is sure how, or if, they are related to Lord Halloween. The story is carefully unfolded, bringing some good old fashioned page-turning suspense."
--Alaskan Bookie [Book Blog]
"It was also interesting to explore how debilitating fear can be and how people react to it with fight or flight, how fear freezes you to the spot when you know you have to hurry and get away from the killer. I'm vague on purpose, peeps. I don't want to give you any spoilers. I just want you to read this book. It's really, really good."
--Nocturnal Book Reviews [Book Blog]
"The twists and turns within the novel keep you guessing till the very end. There came a point in my reading that I just wanted to be left alone to be able to read and find out the ending. My husband would try to have a conversation and I would hush him. I just love these types of books!"
-- The Heart of the Dragon's Den [Book Blog]
"The story is multi-layered, using Halloween legends mixed with a good old twisted psychopathic thriller... I am thrilled that this appears to be the first in a trilogy about Kate and Quinn, I can't wait to see what happens to them next."
-- Stacy, A Texas Reader [Book Blog]
3 Good Questions with Rob Blackwell
NFE: What books have kept you up all night reading?
Rob Blackwell: I can get addicted to a book fairly easily. The last one I felt I absolutely could not put down was Stephen King’s 11/22/63. That book was amazing. Like every other person who ever wrote a horror novel, I am in awe of King and have read all of his books. 11/22/63 was a masterpiece—a great story, likeable characters, and a satisfying ending. I’m also a sucker for good, long fantasy books. I burned through George R.R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” series very quickly – and those are huge books. Similarly, I loved Patrick Rothfuss’ “The Name of the Wind.” There’s something about picking up a book and knowing you can live in that world for a long time before it runs out that’s very appealing to me.
NFE: Would “A SOUL TO STEAL” keep you up all night if you hadn’t written it?
Rob Blackwell: Yes, definitely. The funny thing is that enough time has passed since I wrote it that I have re-read the book years later and found myself frantically turning pages like everyone else. I know what happens, of course, but it’s easy to get caught up.
What I like best about it is the mix of genres. This can be a blessing and a curse. As a reader, I absolutely love it. As an author, it makes the book harder to market. Some people really like particular genres and don’t want them mixed with others. But I’m not that kind of reader myself so it’s hard to be that kind of author. I wrote the book as a supernatural thriller, but it also became a murder mystery and included elements of romance, action adventure and urban fantasy. Fortunately, there are a lot of readers out there who like all those things too.
NFE: How about some links so we can find out more about you?
Rob Blackwell: I can be found on two websites: http://blackwellauthor.blogspot.com and www.facebook.com/asoultosteal. I’m also on Twitter at @hobbinb. I’d love to see you there. I have a sequel coming out this fall, so I’m planning to run contests and do other fun stuff to get the word out.
